Music & Jazz
Jazz was commonly listened to in the household I grew up in so eventually my ear wanted nothing else. Music was always apart of my life. My mother plays piano and flute so I remember hearing her practicing & performing as far back as I can remember. In the 4th grade I got my own first instrument which was the saxophone. I played it solely until I was in the 8th grade then made the switch to the guitar. I figured it would be an easy instrument since I was far along with the sax. I was really interested in playing a chordal instrument since I spent a lot of time practicing alone. Since my mom was a really good piano player I wanted nothing to do with the piano. The guitar was where I ended up. During the next 4 years I accomplished nothing on the instrument. I spent a lot of time listening to good improv music but no time developing my own abilities.
To make a long and boring story short, my mom gave me a Wes Montgomery recording and a Tuck Andress instructional VHS tape. I pretty much said good-bye to the world for several years and changed my life to be able to accomplish the task of learning to play traditional/modern jazz on the guitar.
